Hugh Harris Drilling Corporation was started by my father in 1956 in Riverton Wyoming drilling for uranium. The market collapsed and Hugh moved his family to Delta Utah to drill for beryillium where he worked for Anaconda . As the projects and work grew Hugh offered his drillers working Partnerships. His partners were Clyde Stevens, Jim Toler and Jerry Maxfield. In 1980 Hugh, Jim and Clyde formed Harris Y CIA Ltda. and moved to South America to work for Utah International and Getty on a huge copper porphyry deposit near Antofagasta Chile which became the Escondido Mine. The company grew into one of the biggest drilling firms in South America. Harris Y Cia. Ltda was sold by Jim Toler to an international drilling group after Hugh’s passing.
In 1986 I formed Harris Exploration Drilling and Associates Inc. My plan was to have a diverse group of drills which could work in a various types of drilling and minimize the permitting required by lowering the disturbance. Myself, Patrick Harris and my drillers have worked on all types of mineral exploration projects including gold, silver, copper, uranium, coal, beryllium, molybdenum, nickel, lithium and various rare earths in North and South America as well as the Caribbean Islands. We have also drilled commercial and residential water wells, geothermal gradient wells, seismograph projects, shallow gas , coalbed methane and tar sand wells, cathode protection wells and many different geotechnical applications including monitoring wells for hazardous fluids and piezometer wells on earthen dams.
